Reiki
what is reiki?

Reiki is an ancient form of healing touch that allows the practitioner to balance the body energy of one’s self or others without losing their own energy as they do so.  Reiki is a word formed from two Japanese words, Rei, universal, and Ki, life energy and is referred to as Universal Life Energy. The ability to practice Reiki is passed from the Reiki Master to the student through a metaphysical process known as an attunement. Once attuned anyone can enjoy the health and relaxation benefits of Reiki for themselves and share them with friends and family.

The practice of Reiki has been around for thousands of years but the way it is practiced today is due to the rediscovery of Reiki by Dr. Usui early in the 20th century.  He practiced and promoted the use of Reiki in Japan.  A patient and student of Dr. Usui’s, Mrs. Takata, brought Reiki to the West. She controlled the practice of Reiki for many years, maintaining what she deemed to be the true form. In the recent past other interpretations have arisen resulting in the availability of several forms of Reiki today.

The two major influences in Reiki at Intentus are traditional Usui Reiki and non-traditional Reiki. Usui Reiki, as described by William Lee Rand, focuses on the original teachings of Dr. Usui and places a strong emphasis on the sacred nature of Reiki. Non-traditional Reiki is a movement that desires to provide access to Reiki to as many people as possible, removing barriers to practice and reducing the secrecy that has existed in traditional thinking.  Traditional Reiki provides certification which non-traditional Reiki is unconcerned with.  Intentus combines these views to provide an inclusive perspective that allows new practitioners to find out how Reiki fits into their existing world view and how to use Reiki to make their lives, and the lives of those around them, better.
