My greatest desire is to help the people I work with achieve true transformative change in their lives. The personalized coaching programs I develop for each client helps them build capacity to actualize their desired outcomes. I challenge the people I work with to examine how they are approaching what they have come into coaching for and what they are willing to do for themselves toward achieving their goals. I support them as they stretch themselves and grow into the new way of approaching their challenges. My coaching clientele has varied from individuals working through personal concerns and hopes to executives looking for ways to be more capable within their roles.
As an Integral Master Coach™ my approach is grounded in Integral Coaching Canada’s methodology, which pragmatically applies the concepts and lenses of Integral Theory. I am certified in SQ21 through Deep Change and the Integral 360º Leadership Management Profile through Integral Development. I am a PULSE Professional mediation trainer and am licensed to use Emotional Smarts. As a member of the Integral Coaching Canada Consortium I am involved in research into the role of coaching in the healing process. This group is co-creating a book on incorporating wellness as an integral aspect of coaching, specifically in helping individuals move from a illness oriented story to a more liberating wellness story, even in situations where healing may not be possible.
My background in anthropology and East Asian studies provides me with a unique perspective on life and relationships. It definitely makes me curious, an attribute I bring into each coaching situation. I currently volunteer at a local hospice working with people at end-of-life – something I find hugely rewarding.
I am a professional project manager with over forty years experience in IT and a proven track record in delivering complex information systems projects in both private industry and government. I am also a trained personal life coach, with a huge interest in helping people achieve their life’s desires and in just generally reducing the drama many of us experience throughout our day-to-day lives at work, at home, and in the world in general.
As a project manager I have managed complex, multi-functional projects for companies as diverse as Husky Oil, Canadian Pacific Railway, Telus Communications, the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Shaw Communications, Ensign Energy Services Inc., Teck Coal and UFA Cooperative. In 2002 I started my own project management company, Jacobus Associates Inc. In 2007, my wife Lois launched an associated personal coaching business, Intentus, which provided me both the impetus and the opportunity to become a coach in my own right. As a coach I have had the privilege to help people address their personal challenges and facilitate addressing their growth and development.
I learned first hand that a project manager must be a strong team player with excellent people management and team leadership skills combined with the ability to communicate at all levels within an organization. I have studied leadership concepts and their practical application in a project delivery environment. My intent is to take that experience and bring it into my coaching practice – not to tell my clients that I know “the way”, but to use as a foundation for my work and a source of pragmatic life experiences that help in developing practices for my clients.
